Just had an intense and lengthy public argument with an old mate. And I’m not sure if I had just pariahed myself from the group.
Upon reflection, it’s fair that my (former?) friend(s) hated my skepticism and opposition.
To them, god offers wonders and endless possibilities in a world that often seems difficult, tragic or mundane. And faith promises health, wealth and eternal life after death.
“The word of god is the biblical truth!”, they trumpet. A perfect oxymoron, I must say, as the bible is sometime called to be taken metaphorically and at other times, literally.
But I digress.
My argument is that scientists, inventors and ordinary folks are the ones that have actually delivered the things that improve human life.
So to me, science is far better in our world than believing in an omnipotent, omniscient and omnibenevolent god that constantly fails.
